Chapter 7: A Mad Tea Party

Summary:

Alice arrives at the Hare`s house and she doesn`t only find the Hare but she also finds a Hatter and a Dormouse drinking tea. When they see Alice, they tell her that there is no room for her but she insists to set with them. All of the parties start to insult each other and they continue on that until the Hatter gives a riddle to all of them. Alice is enthusiastic to guess the correct answer but the Hare insults her that guessing is not like discovering the answer and all of them join the Hare in his argument until they forget the riddle. Then Alice suggests that they should spend their time on a good thing rather than waste it in insulting and unanswered riddles. The Hatter becomes angry of what Alice says and she responds to her that time is a him not an it and their watch always indicate that the time is six o’clock and their party of the tea is at six o`clock which means that their party will never finish. Then the Dormouse starts narrating a story to them but the Hatter gets annoyed because of Alice`s questions and interruptions which leads Alice to leave them. While she is wandering in the forest, she finds a tree with a door. She opens the door and she finds herself in a hall that has another small door, she goes in and she realizes that it leads her to the garden that she searches for.

Analysis:

In this chapter, Alice realizes that the time in the wonderland is not the same as the time above the ground; she knows that there are 24 hours per day, 60 minutes per hour, and 60 seconds per minute and it is the same for all people on the earth but she finds a strange thing about it in the wonderland. She finds that time is not an abstract thing anymore when Hatter tells her that that time is a him not an it. Furthermore, she finds that different people in the wonderland understand the time differently and their watches indicate different hours; for example, for the Hatter and the Hare, it is always six o`clock and they always have a tea party at this time. Also, this chapter reveals how childish Alice is when the Dormouse tells a story, she wants to know every single thing in the story because the Dormouse narrates the story with no details.
